The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has called for forensic audit into the final results of the 2012 elections collated by the Electoral Commission.
At a press conference at the PPP headquarters in Accra yesterday, the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom insisted that there were serious inaccuracies in the results with which the EC used to declare President John Mahama President-elect by 50.70 percent.
According to the PPP’s National Secretary, Kofi Asamoah Siaw, the party is in possession of the original election tally which does not tally with what the EC used to determine the winner of the election. According to him, in subsequent days, the PPP would make this evidence public.
The PPP is advocating for an electronic voting system which it believes will quell the serious discrepancies registered in the December 2012 elections: “We want a system of voting that can guarantee that there is no manipulation, no rigging, no changing of figures and no inaccuracies.”
Earlier, the PPP’s Director of Communications, Richmond Keelson, had told DAILY GUIDE that the party will not concede defeat until the controversies were properly sorted out.
He however indicated that the PPP would not go to the Supreme Court to seek redress.
Abuse of Incumbency
According to the PPP, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) enjoyed undue advantage with state resources for its campaign drive and has called for proper scrutiny into the NDC’s abuse of incumbency.
“The abuse of incumbency, the adoption of state resources, the use of state vehicles and machinery and even the inability of the EC to detect sources of campaign funding puts parties such as the PPP that is ready to play by the rules at a disadvantaged position,” stated Mr. Siaw.
