Peacefmonline.com can confirm that the Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana has been shot by some unknown assailants.

According to reports, the Regional Minister's convoy was attacked in the early hours of Friday, December 21 by identified gunmen suspected to be armed robbers.

He is said to be currently on admission at the Gwollu Government Hospital where he is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. But it appears he will be conveyed to the regional capital Wa, from where he might be flown to Accra for further treatment.

His predecessor, Mahmud Halid, the former Regional Minister, confirmed the news to PeaceFM, a short while ago.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer for the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, Bagdara Tanko has told newsmen that the minister's convoy was ambushed by suspected armed robbers.

"The Minister was on an official working visit to some of the districts. He was on his way to one community when he was ambushed. A roadblock had been mounted and shots fired from behind. Unfortunately, one of the bullets hit him....As at now, his condition is very stable and we are praying that he’ll be fine. He was with his bodyguard and the driver but he was the only one wounded because he was sitting in the backseat."
