President John Dramani Mahama began his 2012 campaign on Wednesday with a tour of the Greater Accra Region and a call on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid voting ‘skirt and blouse’ in the forthcoming 2012 general election.
The President said an overwhelming vote for the NDC without a corresponding vote for the party's parliamentary candidates would not be the best as the candidates would fail to make the mark in the house of legislature.
He stressed that both the executive and legislative worked hand-in-hand to ensure development and therefore voting skirt and blouse would be detrimental to the development agenda.
President Mahama, who paid a courtesy call on the two rival chiefs of Osu Traditional Area, made this call when he carried his campaign trail to Osu-Clottey, Adabraka and Odorna where he was received with drumming and dancing amidst shouts of "one touch and idey bii keke.”
Assuring the electorate that he would see to the completion of all projects the late President Mills initiated, President Mahama called on them to vote massively for the party's presidential and parliamentary candidates come December 7 this year.
He said: “The NDC, as a social democratic party, will ensure that all communities throughout the county get their share of development projects."
The President dismounted from the vehicle at Osu Oxford Street where he acknowledged cheers from party supporters who had organized themselves strategically to catch a glimpse of him.
Interestingly, the convoy passed by the NPP headquarters at Assylum-Down where they teasingly waved their hands demonstrating signs of ‘yese sem’ to wit, we shall change the government.
