Lawyers for embattled businessman, Alfred Woyome, have expressed the believe that their client would receive a fair hearing at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) after the chairman and his deputy agreed to recuse themselves from the next sitting.

The fact-finding committee was forced to suspend sitting last Wednesday because the legal team of the witness argued the chairman of the committee, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah, was ineligible to sit on the case because he was part of the cabinet that allegedly abrogated the contract to be discussed.

This resulted in Mr. Woyome not being questioned on the GhC 51 million judgment debt paid him. His lawyers, however, say they are yet to receive a new invitation from the committee as to when to re-appear.

One of the lawyers, Musah Ahmed in an interview with Citi News, mentioned they are ready to appear when a new date is received.

He said: “We have not as yet received any letter or information from the Public Accounts Committee. Today is Monday and as of last week Friday, no information had come to us so we believe that this week, we will hear from them.”

He commended Mr. Kan-Dapaah and his Deputy, Kwaku Agyeman Manu for stepping down their positions on the PAC saying, “their action is laudable and fair because no man should be a judge in his own case and so the objection we raised against them was respect to the very matter that was pending before them was also pending before the court.”

Mr. Ahmed explained that their actions will build confidence in the outcome of any decision that may be taken by the PAC.
