The Ya-Na Memorial Lecture Secretariat in Dagbon has described President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to resolve the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis as mere rhetoric.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people in Tamale on Monday, President Mahama reiterated government’s commitment to resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict.

However, the Ya-Na Memorial Lecture Secretariat in Dagbon has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to fulfill its 2008 manifesto pledge to find the murderers of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.

“We are concerned about the fact that President John Mahama promised to resolve the Dagbon issue and he left the matter there,” the secretariat’s spokesperson, Mahama Shaibu, stated.

He said President Mahama must fulfill his party’s promise to establish an independent commission of enquiry to investigate the issue.

He asked: “We were promised that the NDC will establish a presidential commission to look into it and now they are talking about resolving the issue? Are they going to resolve the issue devoid of arresting the perpetrators of the Ya-Na?”

Mahama Shaibu further mentioned that the NDC “can only do this by setting up a commission to find the perpetrators.”

The best way, he added, “is for the NDC to go back to its manifesto to set up the presidential commission.”
