Irate youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the proposed Sagnarigu constituency in the Tamale metropolis have threatened to vandalise party property if some of the aspiring parliamentary candidates are disqualified at the vetting process.

The spokesperson for the youth, Ibrahim Alhassan, told Citi News: “What is happening in our constituency now is going to create problems in the Tamale metropolis and not even in the constituency alone because the precedent that they are going to create is not going to go down with the people.”

He added: “Is as if they have planned everything ahead of the vetting because there was rumour that some people are going to be disqualified simply because they are not in the constituency; what we are trying to let them to know is that everybody should be given the level playing field to contest because we don’t want them to impose anybody on us and we have already prepared ourselves and if they disqualify anybody we are going to destroy the party regional office.”

Citi News gathered that the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia arrived in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale to supervise the vetting exercise.

But it was imminent that some of the aspirants would be disqualified at the end of the exercise.

It was against this backdrop supporters of one of the aspirants, Adam Mohammed Amin Abio, Northern Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) converged at the venue and threatened mayhem if their preferred candidate was disqualified.
