The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Benjamin Kumbuor has described as frightening, the number of judgment debts government risk settling in the coming days.

According to him, there are many judgment debt cases being tackled by the AG’s department, a development Mr. Kumbuor said calls for an effective strategy to nib the problem in the bud.

Answering questions from members of the Public Accounts Committee, Dr. Kumbuor said beyond dealing with high profile judgment debt cases, it is high time a holistic approach is adopted to reduce the level of judgment debts paid by the state.

“By the time we had rolled into 2010 the quantum was staggering. So we have decided that we would to find a more scientific way of responding to these judgments debts” Mr. Kumbuor said.

He added that “When I went to the Attorney General’s department for the last six months, the average [cases] is six in a week for only Accra and most of them will culminate into judgments debts”.
