| 300 NDC Youth Defect To CPP |

Copious defections continue to hit the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the northern region over what appears to be the defectors disappointment in government’s failure to meet their expectations.
The Tamale south constituency has recorded the latest defection of about 300 youth to the Convention People’s Party, (CPP).
The defectors, originally members of a group called the Coalition for social Justice described the ruling NDC government as a replica of the erstwhile Kufour led NPP administration.
Among other reasons that informed their defection is government’s lackadaisical approach towards the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani murder case, which was a major campaign tool in 2008.
“The Yaa-Naa murder issue which was a major campaign promise of the NDC that when they come to power within the first hundred days of its assumption in office that they were going to look for the perpetrators of that heinous crime, it never came to light,” Abdul Mumin Sofo, Spokesperson for the defectors recalled.
He added, “Only what we witnessed one morning was to hear a dramatic arrest of some suspects in the Yendi Municipality who were sent to Accra for questioning only to realize suddenly that these people were acquitted and discharged.”
They also expressed their disappointment in government’s unfulfilled promise to bridge the development disparities between the north and the south through the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) programme.
“The NDC government promised a seed capital of Gh200 million cedis to be committed to the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority and up till today we don’t know how much has been committed into SADA which is a big disgrace; we can’t even locate the headquarters of SADA in Tamale.”
With specific reference to the Woyomegate saga, Abdul Mumin Sofo, Spokesperson for the defectors said the President John Mills government has been the most corrupt administration in Ghana’s history.
The CPP National Youth Organizer, Abdul Rauf Kadri and some regional executives welcomed them into their fold. |
