Audio Attachment: General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, takes umbrage at "Ghanaian Chronicle" story regarding the alleged usage of NDC official letterhead to solicit for funds by Dr. Spio Garbrah.

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, has described as false and a figment of the imagination of the Editor of Ghanaian Chronicle, a publication in today’s edition of the newspaper, alleging that the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC, is up in arms with one of its Vice-Chairman, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, for using the official letterhead of the party to solicit for funds.

He has also denied reports that the FEC has taken serious exception to the action of Dr. Spio Garbrah, and consequently asked that the CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, be summoned for explanations.

According to the newly re-elected General Secretary, the publication by the Chronicle newspaper lacked “credibility”.

Speaking to Peace FM exclusively on “Kokrokoo”, he said though Dr. Spio Garbrah had written a letter soliciting for funds in the name of the Party, the said letter was not written on the party’s letterhead but on Spio Garbrah’s own letter head.

“The Chronicle is wrong on this matter… the party has not summoned Spio Garbrah for soliciting for funds for the Party…The NDC has not summoned him, but we’re talking to him as a family member of the NDC’s top hierarchy… As a newly elected member of the Executive Committee….he could be excused for such lapses...,” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of the programme.

Though he described Dr. Garbrah’s idea as brilliant, “General Mosquito” as the NDC Chief Scribe is affectionately called, pointed out that “the NDC has always had its way of doing such things.”

Mr. Asiedu Nketia was particularly unhappy that an issue, which was being discussed by the FEC privately, had found its way into the public domain. He said if the NDC had not agreed to tell the public outcomes of its meetings, no one had the right to do so, and added that, “in their haste with trying to leak information, informant (s) misinforms the public, thereby bringing all sorts of unnecessary tension in the country.”

“We would not want to compromise on the party’s integrity regarding how this issue came to the press…the nation should be spared all these kinds of rumours…Such things could undermine the image of the NDC party and the nation as a whole,” he said.

But honestly General, I beg to differ! Did Ekow write any letter for Funds? Has any memeber of the NDC called his attention to the fact that there is an acceptable way of sending such letters? If so why the tongue bashing at chronicle? Off course you may define the expression "summoned", but infact Ekow is being called to book Abi? You have no case Gen, see you at the usual base this weekend!
