Renowned Pollster and Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, has posited that it will be suicidal if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) elects Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, as its flagbearer for the 2012 General Elections.

Mr. Ephson also opines that in view of the fact that age is on the side of Alan Kyeremanteng, “he should sit back and allow Nana Addo to run unchallenged” as the Party’s flagbearer for 2012, since “he (Alan) will definitely have his opportunity.”

Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on PEACEFM’s “Kokrokoo”, the renowned pollster advised the NPP to close its rank or risk being humiliated in 2012, since the party is sharply divided now than in 2007.

“If the NPP does not take care, they will lose the 2012 elections. It’s either one (Alan or Nana Addo) opts out of the race or both decide not to contest…the division is much worse than it was before the 2008 general elections,” he predicted.

Citing the aftermath of the Sunyani Congress as an example of why the NPP needs to come together, Mr. Ephson said in 1988, Nana Akufo Addo aligned himself with then candidate Kufuor, despite losing out as flagbearer after a rather intense and caustic campaign.

According to him, though some of Nana Addo’s sympathizers were abused and marginalized, they stayed together for the greater interest of the Party.

“I believe that if the NPP will be honest to themselves and do independent checks across the country, they have to sit down, bury the hatchet or they should forget 2012,” he stated.

It makes a lot of sense for one to WILLING opt out for the other - Where Nana and "Cash" is concerned. There is no wat NPP can win the national elections in 2012 should the 2 jiants contest the flagbearership. In my opinion, "Cash" should just give Nana this chance by opting out.

I think it's just fair for Alan to give way to Nana since the latter is already well known to the electorate aside having been more popular than the latter (Alan). In any case, Nana has worked and sacrificed for the NPP tradition more than any other contestant in the presidential race, and had taken his time till this era. Almost all of us in the NPP (and Ghanaians in general) only got to know of Alan when he became a minister. We knew him not as part of the struggle against the Rawlings dictatorship. Nana deserves a second chance.

Let there be competition, no matter how bitter. The calm will come when the delegates decide who they want to be the flagbearer.

If NPP wants it or not they will loose 2012 elections, they should prepare for 2016. why are you using age to determine who should be the flag bearer? the old and the young can die at any time. Alan, opportunity comes but ones so go for it, don't sit back. You made your first mistake at the congress by allowing Nana to stand, this time don't do it again. Nana is full of troubles, his bodyguards are causing troubles every where.

Please Nana and Alan, do follow the peaceful footsteps of Ex Prez Kuffour and stop the division among the party for we need a united NPP and not a divided NPP.

Is it not the NPP which claimed that you want Nana Akufo Addo to go unopposed.Shame on you.It is God who chooses leaders for his people therefore if Nana is not the annoited one for the presidencies no matter what any human being will do he will never become a president.Democracy is all about choices.
