Former Presidential Spokesperson in the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, has in a rather couched manner, pointed out that the Party’s flagbearer in the 2008 General elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has aged and needs to make way for a more vivacious and energetic person.

The NPP stalwart, who openly rooted for Nana Addo as the flagbearer in the party’s 1998 and 2007 Congresses, explained that his decision to switch camp to Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng’s side, was principally because “Allan is full of energy and youthful” and one, whose candidature will yield the required dividends for the party in 2012.

Buttressing his statement, in an interview on PEACEFM’s “Kokrokoo”, Mr. Agyepong said his call for a young generation politics was more pronounced at the time he was gunning to become the NPPs flagbearer in 2007 and wants to remain consistent with what he stood for.

“You will recall during the presidential elections, I stated that I prefer new generation politics. For me, I want to be consistent in what I do, consistency is very important….Looking around the world, I believe if the age at which one can run as president is reduced, it will greatly help, because the task is burdensome….You need vibrancy and energy to be able to rejuvenate the country. Frankly,…my sympathies lie with Alan Kyeremanteng, because he is a younger and a vibrant candidate… but whoever the Party selects, we’ll support him,” Mr. Agyepong said.

Asked why this sudden turnaround, since he canvassed for votes for Nana Addo in 1998, the former presidential Spokesperson replied, “He (Nana Addo) was a younger and vibrant candidate at the time,” he said. According to him, “70% of the Ghanaian electorate is below the age of 39” and the “youth would want to connect with someone who they can easily relate with.”

He, however, quickly added that old-age should not be seen as something too dreadful or alarming.

“We all pray to God for good health and long life, it’s not a bad thing…those are my personal decisions. I believe in a vibrant and younger leadership for our Party,” he added.

Mr. Agyepong argued that “politics is a lose or a win game” and “should not be seen as a life and death matter”.

“The fact that one supports a particular candidate does not mean he hates the other candidate,” he stated.

Oh Kwabena if age is the best why didnt Ghanaians vote for you or even Dan Botwe. The issue of age is bogus. Then people would have even considered Bawumia for the voting. Why Alan or Akuffo Addo. What are thier sucess stories? For one reason I would never support Allan for the flagbearership. Some body who left the party because of intimidation. How can you go to promise land without going through the wilderness. He is not a true member of the party.Looking at the profiles of all the candidates I believe Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku is man for the job.He has all that it takes for the job.

INDEPENDENT VOTER
What a risk? NPP should do their assessment well because, in my opinion, they cannot afford not to put Akuffo Addo, who had almost 50% of the votes in the latest general election on the ticket. With Akuffo Addo on the ticket, NPP now just needs the number of those who voted otherwise and have gone through disappointments to add up. Moreover, the people in the rural areas already know Akuffo Addo's name. What matters is how your party could diligently work to prevent intimidation, voting fraud etc. during the election time. I think it will be the wisest thing to do for the party to rally behind Akuffo Addo. Note that the known naturally attracts more than the unknown. I suggest that Akuffo Addo's almost 50% votes in the 2008 election should not go unnoticed in the party's deliberations.

ALan has been already market, he does not need anymore marketing. ALan was more popular than Nana but party faithfuls thought that Nana had been waiting for too long and needed to be rewarded yet he could not bring success to the party. Are we waiting for him to go 3 times like the current President? If PROf Milss decides to stand again, Nana Addo will lose again and we would say again that since he has been there twice we should let him try finally. In US if one tries and does not win, he quits never contests again. Obama came the first time yet he won power from the Republicans. Forget about who has been cuing for long and choose the one most popular with all Ghanaians. In this wise Alan stands out. NAna has bad publication, be it true or not they see him to be arrogant and easily angerred. Think Twice NPP delegates, forget about NAna and allow all with interest to contest. If Nana wins out of that so be it we all support him. But to say somebody must quit to allow NANa go through is undemocratic. Remember, the fact that it worked for NDC does not mean it will work for NANa. I bet you guys If Mills wins the second time and His vice contest after 8years,NPP will be in opposition for at least 16years. John Mahama has been popular since PNDCtimes, and if the button chnges to him in the other end I bet you NPP is doomed. Let Alan go now and wrestle power from, HIs Excellency PRof Ata Motuary MAn Mills. If not you will regret that only mortuary can wretle power from him

i disagree strongly with kwabena agyapon. Alan is a traitor,he resign to create the impression that nana addo is not a unifyer. nana addo did not resign after the sunyani conference in 1998 though his supporters were harassed by kufuor supporters. nana is the most popular person in npp and ghana now.he is the most qualify and experience person who can lead the party to victory in 2012.he will be his own man and can deliver as a president. alan is a selfish person and has no credibility and and experience to be a flag bearer and president. his supporters are always insulting and saying lies about nana addo. their negative campaign about nana was the campaign message for ndc during the 2008 elections.

LUCAS
NPP is going to say ALAN,ALAN,and NDC will win again come 2012. kwabena agyepong should know that alan kyeremanteng is not a true NPP, supporter or man.Any true member doesn,t resign, and come back again. He deserted the troops,at the time they needed him most.Nana supported and still supports the party. For kwabena agyei to say nana is too old,is rather stupid thing to say.Politics goes with age and experience, and conviction. The fact that you are youngdoesn,t guarantee successful running of a government. ALAN,is a deserter, and the NDC will capitalise on his behaviour to thier advantage.kwabena go back to school.
