Good morning fellow Ghanaians, a hundred years ago, a great son was born to our soil, and today, together with the rest of the African continent, we are celebrating Osagyefo Dr.Kwame Nkrumah, the founder and the first president of our dear nation.

This event is in fulfillment of a commitment I made that under my presidency the birthday of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, will be recognized on our national calendar as “Founder's Day”. Further to this; the African Union has adopted the centenary birthday celebration of our first President as a continental event to be included on the African Union's calendar of special events.

These two events are unprecedented and speak to the uniqueness and global stature of our own Kwame Nkrumah. As a people, we must take collective pride in celebrating today, the 100th birthday of the man who led our independence struggle, and lit the flame that blazed a liberation struggle of the African Continent.

Fellow Ghanaians, Brothers and Sisters, Sons and Daughters of mother Ghana, we are not celebrating our founder for the sake of doing so, we are celebrating him because of what he stood for and what he gave our dear nation. Dr.Kwame Nkrumah’s contributions to the development of Ghana and Africa to creating a vision for Ghana, nurturing and forming the life and spirit of our nation are unsurpassed.

Kwame Nkrumah opened the doors of Ghanaian politics, previously the exclusive domain of the educated elite in the wealthy nurturing class to the ordinary Ghanaian, market women, fishermen, fisher folk, teachers, civil servants and the youth, derisively called by some as veranda boys. Beyond this inclusiveness in our politics, Kwame Nkrumah broke down ethnic barriers in Ghanaian politics and everyday life, imbuing in us a strong sense of oneness, national identity and pride.

In Dr.Kwame Nkrumah, there was no North, South, East or West, there was only one Ghana. Above all, Osagyefo Dr.Kwame Nkrumah bequeath to Ghanaians a sense of self wealth, national pride and dignity. He embodied and promoted the Ghanaian identity far beyond the shores of the African Continent.

Attempts have been made, and will continue to be made, by some, to question the value of his role in Ghana’s history. But my brothers and sisters, the history of our independence struggle and the pivotal role that Kwame Nkrumah played in giving us an independent Ghana can not be wished away.

Kwame Nkrumah, a “Star Ghana”, projected Ghana as the true black star of Africa and emphasized our independence, our ownership of our resources and our capacity to manage our resources and take charge of our future and destiny. Dr.Kwame Nkrumah created the Ghanaian and African personality which resonated and continue to resonate globally. Let this day, my brothers and sisters, be the day we begin to breathe new life into Dr.Kwame Nkrumah’s vision of a strong united Ghana. Let us grab this opportunity and rekindle our sense of national pride and self-worth.

We need to measure the greatness of this nation by the extent to which we care for each other. Let us care for each other and by so doing we will care for mother Ghana. To the youth, they say, the future belongs to you, take control of your destiny and anchor yourselves to the virtues of life knowing that, thou shall profit nothing, if you gain the whole world and lose your soul. There are no short cuts to success, only hard work will guarantee your success.

Fellow Ghanaians, Brothers and Sisters, Sons and Daughters of the land, this day hence, the 21st of September each year, shall be known and called Founder's Day.

It is our time to build on the legacy of our founder and first President, so that individually and collectively, posterity will also position us properly in the history of our dear nation.

Fellow Ghanaians, my Brothers and Sisters, Sons and Daughters, there are rays of hope trickling through the skies’, know and believe that together and with the right attitude that makes us unite behind the things that unite rather than divide us, we will build a better Ghana.

My clarion call to you my brothers and sisters this morning as we celebrate the hundredth birthday of our great founder, it is to please join me in building the Ghana that we all have in our dreams. The beginning may be tough and hard but I know that just as the great Osagyefo gave life to his dreams we shall also give life to our better Ghana dream.

Fellow Ghanaians, Brothers and Sisters, Daughters and Sons of Ghana, arise and shine. Dr.Kwame Nkrumah built Ghana and it is our turn to build a better Ghana. Thank you for allowing me to share some time with you this morning and may God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make us greater and stronger.

Thank you, enjoy the day.

Why cant Ghanaians move on from this and that Idea of Nkrumah? Nkrumah Ideas are of no relevance in todays world of globalization. Cant we as a people develop our own ideas as to move the country foward instead of trying to relive on ideas of a 100 years old man, whose ideas were relevant in the 1950s? To all the people who are still waiting for Nkrumah to resurrect and fulfille his dreams, I say to you, Get over Nkrumah and move on with your Life.

this is not worth a message of a president, for such a memorable day. the message lack substance and is only full of fellow ghanains, brothers and sisters, and so on and so forth. no vision, no clear direction. infact it is no message at all.

I am wondering what kind of nation we are building now. The NPP had the chance and messed it. Kwame Nkrumah off course did a lot for our dear Mother Ghana. But my simple question to us all is, are we always going to sit down and just talk about this noble man without implementing some of his good policies? What I see about we African’s is that, we are more of names, than the ACTION. I get sick each day when I read the news. I am based here in the USA, but for some reason, I don’t see the foreign world better than mother Ghana. On the day of the Black Awareness Week, here in the USA, one of the panelists even said, “My people, with these entire crises in the world, the only solution to it is Africa, and if I may choose an African country, Ghana will be my first destination. They are blessed with all the resources any country of earth may need. It’s about time we turn to our roots and find solutions”. Ok what about us the Ghanaians who have all these? I am not trying to cut the root from which we gain our independence, but I am asking why we have made our past so much an issue to us that we refuse to look into the future. If a man does not take risk, he is a like a tree without stems and will always hate its roots. Malcolm X once said, “You can’t hate the roots of a tree and not hate the tree itself”. What I am simply asking is, if we think Nkrumah’s policies is what we need, then lets get it going. It’s about time Ghana raise, We are trying to move a Yellow force soon and I know it’s a long road, but for sure, Ghana will change and we the youth will take charge and make our country a safe and a great country to live. May God grant our president wisdom to rule his people and may He God himself establish his nation. Long Live Ghana, Long live our Nation, Kwadkwk@aol.com

Atta
Brothers and sisters, sons and doughters, is it fair for Uncle Atta to call for unity and at the same time supervise human rights abuse, harassment of his political opponents and lawlessness by his party officials? If he is not ready to take off the 'tinted lences' that impedes his sight and as such cant see the evil deeds being perpetrated by his party men and TALK about them them he should shut up and lets stay in our disunity. After all he spearheaded the tribal and sectional politics before winning power. Let is think!

Indeed I am awash with some utter antagonizing sentiments about what I am hearing about the making of a "FOUNDER" called Kwame Nkrumah who threw a lot of our old folks behind bars at no apparent crime committed by them. Have you sat down to think about the roles the Paa Grants, J.B. Danquas, Ako Adjeis, Obetsebi Lampteys and the rest. Come to think of it, where was he when the struggle began. was he not brought down by these gallant men and was being remunerated for what he was assigned to do? Have you inquired about how much these true sons of mother Ghana put in to make things work towards the attainment of independence from the colonial masters? Lets put a stop to the making of this man as a mini-god within our body politics and forge ahead to build the country for the betterment of the citizenry. Long live ghana. Greet my people at Chokor for me
