Twenty years after the enactment of the Interstate Succession Law, PNDC Law III, Parliament has introduced a new bill which when passed is expected to be more responsive to the needs of the nuclear family of the bereaved.
Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Deputy Majority Leader, Rashid Pelpuo said the Bill was in a consideration stage before it was put on hold.
He said Parliament has created avenues for the public to understand the Bill better.
Meanwhile, a member of the Association of Women Lawyers in Africa, Edna Kuma disagrees with Parliament that the new intestate succession bill could undermine the country's cherished extended family system.
Speaking to Radio Ghana’s “Behind the News”, Madam Kuma explained that before the statement on the new bill came out the Association had earlier met with the constitutional, legal and parliamentary committee of Parliament which agreed that the bill will be put before parliament but she is surprised why the house is still dragging its feet on the smooth passage of the bill.
