The chiefs and people of the 16 paramountcies of the Ho West Constituency on Saturday defied a two hour downpour to celebrate the first ever unity durbar.

Though drums and other musical instruments got wet and could not produce quality sounds, the people danced all day with great joy.

The durbar was under the theme; “Harnessing the People for the Development of the Constituency,” and under the auspices of the Congress of Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers of Ho West Constituency.

Colonel Cyril Necku (Rtd), Deputy Volta Regional Minister, who represented President John Evans Atta Mills, commended the resilience of the people and urged them to remain united for the accelerated development of the area.

He said government remained committed to promises made to the nation and that the Ho West Constituency would have its fair share of development projects.

Osie Adza Tekpor VII, Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional Area and Chairman of the Congress, said the durbar was expected to consolidate efforts of the chiefs, queen-mothers and the youth of the constituency.

He said it was to create a formidable force for unity, development, idea sharing, investment and creation of jobs for young people.

He reiterated the call on government to create a district for the constituency with its capital at Dzolokpuita for a more coordinated development.

Osie Adza Tekpor also called for work to be done on roads in the constituency to boost the economic and tourism potentials.

Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Member of Parliament for the area, who is one of the initiators of the Unity Durbar, re-assured the people that roads and other infrastructure needed would be done in due course.

He urged the young people to take advantage of government’s interventions to enhance their livelihoods.
