The Member of Parliament for Evalue-Gwira in the Western Region, Hon Catherine Afeku, is alleging that some of the ladies who were part of the over 400-support group sent by the Government to Angola, were actually used for other purposes aside cheering the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, to victory.
It would be recalled that prior to the Black Stars’ epic encounter with the Pharaohs of Egypt in the finals AFCON 2010, President J.E.A Mills directed the Chief of Staff, Mr. Martey-Newman, to organize a 200 Ghanaian contingent to Angola to rally support for the team.
The delegation was made up of leaders of all the political parties, as well as some members of the Ghana Bar Association, National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), the Media and other institutions.
But speaking in an interview with PEACEFM’s Parliamentary Correspondent, Emmanuel Akorli, outside Parliament’s Chambers, the Evalue-Gwira MP alleged that there is a higher possibility that some of the ladies who embarked on the trip were lured into sex.
When reached for her comments, the NPP MP said, “it’s a common phenomenon…you’re over 18years and on a trip outside home….indeed you do know that we’re talking about sex,” she told PEACEFM News.
“As a concerned parent, I had to make that statement…we need to be really careful…our young ladies should be cautious about some of these favours…in this era of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STIs) and AIDS, our daughters have to be careful,” she added.
Asked if she meant the ladies were sent on the trip to practice prostitution, the Honourable MP hit the roof and combusted in exclamation, “that word is very derogatory”.
“I find that word insulting; there's no such thing whatsoever. Don’t put words in my mouth. It was only meant as a word of caution…I find it even nauseating to repeat the word (prostitution) after you,” she stated.
