The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has postponed the release of the final results of the 2010 Population and Housing Census, which had been scheduled to be announced today, April 30.

The GSS in a statement said: “A new date for the release will be announced in due course.”

The acting Government Statistician, Dr Philomena Nyarko said in the statement that the “GSS is doing all it can to complete all stages of the census data processing as soon as possible.”

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) threatened in March to advise itself on the way forward if government does not publish the 2010 census figures.

The NPP said every Ghanaian deserves to know the outcome of the census in terms of the number of people living at a particular location to be better informed ahead of a new voter register for the December elections.

However, the EC has said Census figures are not necessary in compiling a new voter’s register.

“It will not affect the registration,” Dr. Afari-Djan stated. “It could affect constituency demarcation, but not the registration.”
